Mishal Saeed: Curator & Licensee for TEDxSalford

Curator TEDxSalford

Mishal is known for the zeal, liveliness and vivacity of her personality. She likes to variegate her life experiences by being involved in the activities around her, aiming to make the most of everything and living life to the fullest. She is an International Relations and Politics student and is currently the President of the University of Salford Students’ Union. She is the primary licensee of the conference.

Previously, she has worked on a summer placement for BBC in White City, London, after representing Salford at the BBC Bitesize Challenge and subsequently winning the competition. Her experiences include representing Salford University as an NUS delegate, serving as a Vice President at the University of Salford Students’ Union, chairing a committee at a leadership conference in Oxford University, taking part in an international business competition in Latvia, working as Project Advisor for SIFE Salford and attending PMQT at the House of Commons. Her passions include poetry, writing, sports (badminton & netball) and helping others. Possessing a socially sensitized disposition and fervour, she has been involved in various social and charitable projects.

She has won several awards and honours during her time at Salford University including the prestigious ‘Heart of Salford’ Award for her services to the local community. She also received a Royal Seal of Approval when she met His Royal Highness, The Duke of Edinburgh at the official opening of the University’s MediaCityUK building for her achievements in entrepreneurship.

She feels that TED is like a replica of her nature but in another form – mirroring the versatility of her taste, the diversity of her interests and offering solace in the form of empowerment of the mind. She describes it as a grand bouquet of the best bits of life, which preserves moments of social momentum and offers a continuum of inspiration.

Uzair F. Butt: Curator for TEDxSalford

Curator TEDxSalford

Uzair Butt is an Engineering graduate from Oxford University. He is the Curator for the conference and also in charge of over-seeing the overall direction of the project. Uzair has widespread experience of arranging large scale academic conferences and socio-cultural events, having served as the head of the Events team twice previously, for an annual leadership conference that is held in Oxford University every year. He has also acted as the President of one of the largest student societies at Oxford, which under his leadership, grew massively in size and influence. His interests include technology, cricket and politics.

It is in his inherent nature to keep himself updated on any or all topics under the sun- and hence TED is his favourite part time hobby. As a staunch up-keeper of justice and owing to his encyclopaedic general knowledge, his comrades/colleagues often describe him as someone coming from a legal background in addition to a background in engineering.

He has the talent to fully harness his gifted memory skills to store, retain, and recall information to inexplicable levels of accuracy. Moreover, he has a meticulous eye for detail and the ability to create a harmonious work environment. Friends would describe him as the entertainment of the party as he habitually persuades them to be casted in videos which he films and directs as a side-hobby. He has the will to do as situation demands and likes to analyse, pre-calculate and strategize moves for any situation.

Henry Douek Speaker Liaison Head for TEDxSalford

As Head of Speakers at TEDxSalford, Henry Douek is in charge of creating a line-up that will draw and inspire an audience from all walks of life. Having spent most of his youth travelling between countries, living most of his life in Brazil and Israel, Henry has a penchant for languages and a passion for different cultures.

From an early age, all he wanted to do was play guitar and make music, however, at the age of 16 he realised he was much better at ‘hustling’ than playing chords, so he set up a record label with 5 talented producers/DJs and decided to rule the world of Electronic music. That didn’t happen, but the next 5 years taught him a lot about running a creative, fast paced business that exists in an ever changing industry.

Henry’s previous charity work includes a year-long project in Salford improving the services available for people with Mental health issues, as well as single handedly raising over £4000 for ‘Shelter’ the housing and homelessness charity. Now alongside TEDxSalford he works for one of the world’s leading computer firms, helping clients naturally integrate technology into their personal and professional lives, keeping in line with his aim to inspire a little creativity in everyone he encounters

When Henry hasn’t got half of his head in a computer screen, you will most likely find him eating, watching some sort of Comedy/Action Adventure – whilst eating, or talking about which country to visit next, so he can eat there.
