I spent the years after abandoning my childhood dream in favour of experimenting. I told myself that I abandoned it because I lost my mentor. The truth is I abandoned it because I realized that I didn’t have passion. A small, but steadily increasing number of people in the world are lucky enough to be able to do what they love for a living, or at least leverage that experience and passion in order to support themselves in a position that allows them to use that knowledge to their advantage. John Robb is one of them.

Since forming in 1996, Goldblade, (which was formed following his first band, Membranes) has gone on to release several albums, 3 of which have been under Captain Oi! Records. The band’s most successful album, Rebel Songs, was described as “a re-affirmation of punk rock’s political roots.” Goldblade’s most recent album The Terror of Modern Life was released in May of this year.

John’s conviction and passion for the roots of punk rock has given him many opportunities; he is an award-winning journalist and author, and edits the highly-praised music and culture website, Louder Than War. In addition, he has contributed to many documentaries and television programmes on various noteworthy channels including Channel 4 and BBC 2.

John was a favourite speaker from last year’s TEDxSalford, about society’s need for a rock n’roll revolution culminating in an act of on-stage vandalism that we’ll always remember. John will be returning this year with a brand new talk, and we might ask him to stay away from the stage decoration this time.

You can find out more about John on his and check out his profile at the Guardian.

We are pleased to announce that John Robb will be joining us again for TEDxSalford 3.0 on the 10th of November at the Lowry, Salford Quays. Make sure to check out the rest of our excellent speaker line-up, and get your ticket now.
