The venue for TEDxSalford 3.0 is the renowned Lyric Theatre at the Lowry Complex, MediaCity UK, Salford Quays, Greater Manchester.

Set in a magnificent waterside location at the heart of the redeveloped Salford Quays in Greater Manchester, The Lowry is an architectural flagship with a unique and dynamic identity. Rising from the regenerated docklands, it is a welcoming building, designed to reflect the surrounding landscapes and flourishing waterways, in its glass and metallic surfaces.

The Lowry opened on 28th April 2000, bringing together a wide variety of performing and visual arts under one roof. Opening its door to the best in entertainment and education in the arts, The Lowry aims to give everyone access to new areas of creativity and to embrace its broad community.

The Lowry houses two main theatres and studio space for performing arts (1,730, 466 and 180 seats respectively) presenting a full range of drama, opera, ballet, dance, musicals, children’s shows, popular music, jazz, folk and comedy and gallery spaces (1,610 metres of floor space); showing the works of LS Lowry alongside contemporary exhibitions.

The University of Salford at MediaCityUK is a unique venue suitable for the most ambitious and imaginative events – blending technology, people and stunning surroundings, making it an excellent and original choice.

With a combination of state of the art conference, meeting and creative studio space for TV, Radio and live performance all using latest the AV and communication technology, the venue  provides balance of creativity and functionality to the event.

The reception area is an open space that integrates our interactive media technologies including a unique 120 micro tile video screen, interactive touch tables and plasma displays, which when combined creates a fully immersive media experience.

Located within the reception is one of two main theatres, specially designed for presentations for up-to 50 people theatre style. The main conference theatre space is located on the top floor and offers an open environment with capacity for up to 100 theatre style.

A special venue facility is the Digital Media Performance Lab – an experimental space mainly built for student and research performance.  It combines the technology of a TV Studio, the excitement of live theatre and an immersive cinema delivered from the one of the largest HD screens in Europe (with a capacity of 150 theatre style). Along with a green room and other associated break-out rooms, this is a self-contained space for that truly special event.

The creative studio spaces include two industry standard HD TV studios including a green screen and three radio studios capable of facilitating any productions and broadcasts.

Across the three floors, there is availability of various sized meeting rooms and break-out spaces, all with AV and communication services, set within an environment that will instill creativity and innovation.

The Lowry Theatre is most popular and visited tourist attraction in Greater Manchester. On the 4th floor of The Lowry, the stunning, circular Compass Room stands proud. With easy access for guests and event contractors alike, this popular room is the perfect setting for a TEDx event. Its glass walls allow an abundance of natural daylight to illuminate the room, but at the push of a button, the electronic blinds can provide complete blackout facilities, essential for formal presentations.

The panoramic views of the Quays and the Manchester skyline from the Compass Room’s own private balcony add the wow factor to any conference or event. Refreshments can be enjoyed in this unique setting allowing delegates to take time out to enjoy the fresh air and scenery. Directly below the Compass Room is the Quays Bar, a versatile space which provides a relaxed, informal environment for both catering and delegate registration, and offers views of some of Manchester ’s most iconic buildings.
