Joe Incandela: Head of the Higgs Boson Experiment at CERN
The TEDx at Salford in 2012 was incredibly rewarding for me. Having a chance to meet with and talk at length with the other speakers whose experiences in life were so diverse and interesting was a unique experience and I am still in contact with many of them. In addition, the young but energetic organizing team was incredibly thorough and accommodating. The whole experience was very positive.”

Etienne Stott: British Olympic Champion at London 2012
Taking part in TEDxSalford was a great experience. It was a bit intimidating to get my head around at first, but the audience were super friendly and receptive and I really enjoyed it. The whole event was just so interesting, with such a diverse subject range and such a mixture of people that I don’t think it would be possible to leave without at least a few ‘big ideas’ stewing in your brain. I would recommend getting involved, the organising team really worked hard to make it easy!”
Etienne Stott won the Olympic gold medal along with his partner Tim Baillee in the men’s slalom canoeing competition. He had barely managed to regain fitness to compete at the Olympics due to a career threatening injury he had recently faced. Stott was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2013 New Year Honours for services to canoeing.

Debra Searle: Adventurer & TV Presenter
“Obviously being invited to a TEDx talk is a huge honour but to have the chance to speak at TEDxSalford made it even more special for me. The Lyric Theatre in the heart of MediaCity is an architectural flagship and therefore an impressive venue to perform in. But what made the event particularly special for me was working with the TEDxSalford team. To experience such a wonderful combination of youth, passion and professionalism was inspiring from a group who achieved a successful, slick and media savvy event alongside their busy jobs and university studies.”
Debra Searle is a renowned British adventurer, author and TV presenter. The media worldwide went crazy for the story of the 5ft 5″ young lady who carried on rowing the Atlantic solo when her husband, an experienced oarsman, left the boat after developing an uncontrollable fear of the ocean. Yet, she dared to believe and 111 days later she rowed into Port St Charles, Barbados, to a rapturous welcome. Debra, who was loving life at sea in a 23 foot plywood boat, saw no reason to stop and rowed on to become the youngest and only the third woman in the world to have rowed an ocean solo.
