Speaker Announcement – Louie Schwartzberg
September 16, 2013 Blog Faizaan Khan
Nature. Beauty. Gratitude. Louie Schwartzberg’s amazing time-lapse photography allows us to see nature from a whole new perspective. With over two million views, his incredible TED talk was showcased at TEDxSalford 2.0 for the delegates to savour.
After graduating from UCLA film school in the 1970s, Schwartzberg spent the next 35 years filming, documenting and photographing the natural world. “Time and a sense of wonder” were the key ingredients that lead him on his cinematographic journey; a journey which has seen him provide material for Hollywood blockbusters such as The Bourne Ultimatum, Men in Black, American Beauty and E.T. amongst others.
In 2012 he produced a documentary feature for Disneynature, Wings of Life, narrated by Meryl Streep and the winner of much critical acclaim. He is currently working on a 3D-IMAX feature for National Geographic, a feature which seeks to delve into the world hidden from the naked eye.
Schwartzberg is also the founder of the Energy Film Library, credited by many with ‘pioneering the contemporary stock footage industry’. After its acquisition by Getty Images in 1997, he founded BlackLight Films, ‘a company dedicated to producing large-format films, features, documentaries, TV content and children’s programming’ responsible for titles such as America’s Heart & Soul.
Another one of Schwartzberg’s ventures includes Moving Art, a service that provides the ‘first collection of 2D and 3D moving images created as fine art for digital screens’.
“Wondering how and what-if is the ‘sense of wonder’ that Einstein referred to when asked his definition of God. When you closely observe our world, you recognize that everything in nature is connected. Humans can only survive if we open our eyes and work toward a mutually sustainable future.” – Louie Schwartzberg
We are pleased to announce that Louie Schwartzberg will be speaking at TEDxSalford 3.0 on the 10th of November at The Lowry, Salford Quays.
