Speaker Announcement – Graham Hughes
August 10, 2013 Blog Ben Milnes
Fact: your gap year travels weren’t as impressive as the trip Graham Hughes completed last year. Last November he returned from The Odyssey Expedition: visiting 201 countries, including every United Nations Member state in the world, without flying.
The Manchester University-educated Liverpudlian began his journey in Uruguay on 1 January 2009. Over the course of just under four years, he was imprisoned in Africa twice, got drunk with the Prime Minister of Tuvalu and was miraculously saved from Islamic fundamentalists by a ladyboy called Jenn. His final stop was South Sudan, a country that didn’t even exist when he set off. According to Graham the trip isn’t over: “It is one of the things I want to keep doing for the rest of my life. Whenever a new country gains independence, I want to head there overland from the UK, and continue the journey.”
Graham’s trip was in support of WaterAid, and if you want to sponsor him you can still do so.
We are excited to announce that Graham will be speaking on stage at TEDxSalford 3.0, which will be hosted at the Lowry Complex, Salford Quays, Greater Manchester, on 10th November 2013. Take a look at the other speakers we have lined up for the conference on our dedicated speaker page.
If you want to find out more about Graham before the conference (and why wouldn’t you), why not…
