We are finally ready to announce our Mystery Speaker for this October’s upcoming TEDxSalford event! After a magnificent summer of British sport, culminating in a haul of 65 Olympic medals (including 29 gold), the country is still in a sporting reverie, with an aura of national pride that’s barely faded. It’s an honour for us to be able to welcome one of the contributors to Team GB’s tremendous success. When I was a child, a seemingly small decorative decision by my parents may have had a massive impact on the way I see the world. From a young age, I’ve always had a large poster of a world map on my wall. I never really considered it at the time – it was always an accepted part of the décor of whichever bedroom I was sleeping in at the time. I did, however, find myself drawn to it during quiet moments. When I needed to think, and lift my eyes away from books, magazines, video games – I’d stare at the map. It was infinitely entertaining to me. There were so many countries, towns and cities scattered all over. I would never be able to even read the names of each one of them.
