Is Aubrey de Grey the prophet of immortality?

Audrey (David Nicholas Jasper) de Grey is known for his highly controversial statements about why we age and how we should prevent it, as well as his astonishingly long beard. He is a computer scientist, researcher and self-taught biogerontologist, which means Aubrey studies biological phenomena associated with old age and aging.

We are excited to announce that Aubrey de Grey will be joining us at TEDxSalford 3.0. Read More »

Simon Singh is known for promoting mathematics and science to the general public. He is a science journalist, best-selling book author and TV producer, and he is also our first speaker to be announced for November’s TEDxSalford 3.0 event.

From 1990 to 1997 Simon joined the BBC’s Science Department as a producer and director for many programs such as ‘Tomorrow’s World’, ‘Horizon’ and the BAFA award-winning (and Emmy nominated) documentary ‘Fermat’s Last Theorem’ (in United States titled: ‘The Proof’). And SQUISH the bastard!! Or use it to make a very thin soup. (James Harris, Writer)

Psychologists call this experience or feeling the imposter syndrome. The constant voice saying: ‘I don’t deserve to be here, I don’t deserve to be here’ can be thoroughly disempowering. These constant self-doubts reduce your self-confidence and may progress to worries, sleepless nights and even anxiety. Read More »

3 Simple Tips to Die Happy!

June 18, 2013 Blog

Nobody wants to die. No one has ever escaped it because death is very likely the single best invention of life. It clears out the old to make way for the new. (Steve Jobs)

Already a tiny reminder of death makes us feel completely uncomfortable. Most of us are probably more than happy to avoid the topic as long as possible. But, nonetheless, it is part of human nature. We often get reminded of death in a very painful way. This so-called ‘mortality awareness event’ is usually triggered in two ways: the death of a close family member or friend and the diagnosis of a life-threatening disease.

The truth is a bitter pill to swallow: Nobody knows what will happen next year or even the very next second. No one wants to die so we may as well prepare for it because often we don’t have as much time as we think, and covering our eyes doesn’t make death disappear.
